Columbus man ordered to repay $3K for workers’ comp fraud

William Barnes, of Columbus (Franklin County), pleaded guilty May 27 in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas to workers’ compensation fraud, a first-degree misdemeanor.

SID’s intelligence unit found that Barnes earned wages from two employers while receiving temporary total disability benefits through a database cross match query from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Claimants are not permitted to work while receiving this type of benefit. Investigators found evidence that substantiated the allegation.

Barnes was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, which was suspended for 18 months of community control. He was ordered to pay $3,311.85 in restitution to BWC.
