Case update: Stark County man ordered to pay $12K in restitution

Michael Angelo, of North Canton (Stark County), was ordered May 5 in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas to pay $12,352.79 in restitution to BWC in connection with working while receiving workers’ compensation benefits.

We told you last month that Angelo pleaded guilty March 3 to one count of workers’ compensation fraud, a fifth-degree felony, after investigators found that Angelo was working at two different “games of skill” businesses on a part-time basis while receiving temporary total disability benefits between October 2012 and August 2013. Injured workers are not permitted to work while receiving this type of benefit.

In addition to restitution, Angelo was ordered to serve seven months in jail, which was suspended for four years of community control.
