Bedford man ordered to repay $28K for workers’ comp fraud

Kenneth Allen, of Bedford (Cuyahoga County), was ordered April 22 in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas to repay $28,118.28 in restitution to BWC. He pleaded guilty March 19 to workers’ compensation fraud, a fifth-degree felony.Kenneth Allen

A BWC claims service specialist reported suspected fraud after Allen submitted unsigned personal checks from an employer in order to obtain living maintenance wage loss, a type of benefit for claimants who experience a reduction in income when they return to work.

Investigators confirmed that Allen did not return to work for the employer he claimed to be working for, and that Allen falsified documents and failed to report his actual income to receive benefits from August 2009 to October 2012.

Allen was sentenced to 18 months of community control. He was also sentenced to 12 months of incarceration, which was suspended.
